Why your company needs a Wellness Expert
Having started in 2004 in Human Resources I got my first taste of corporate wellness programming. I was in Graduate School full-time on my way to obtaining my Master's degree in Public Health while working full-time.
What was great about that is that I was able to draw from real-world HR experience in a very large manufacturing facility while also incorporating what I was learning in my textbooks and from my amazing professors.
HR did not properly prepare me for corporate wellness. That is not its function. I learned a lot about locating and hiring the right employees, understanding and enforcing policies/procedures, regulations, and (in the US) union negotiations.
Yes it allowed me to try my hand at some wellness initiatives, but it wasn't until I completed my Masters level education and spent over the next 2 decades learning, implementing, evaluating, relearning, re-implementing, and re-evaluating at the corporate and government level to finally grasp the best practices in corporate wellness.
Sure, anyone can do what I did at first when I worked in HR and do an internet search (or now use AI) to find what wellness programs might be good to implement at their workplace, but nothing will ever compare to the effectiveness of someone specifically trained to excel in this industry.
Working with a wellness expert will save time, money, and create high-engaging programming that will yield a high educational, qualitative, and financial return on a company's investment.
